Dell Precision M3800 Confirmed, Ultra-Slim Mobile Workstation

Dell Precision M3800

Dell has confirmed a good news to SlashGear. The well-known laptop manufacturer is ready to launch Precision M3800 mobile workstation before the end of this year. Built to compete with Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display, it boasts a 15.6-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels or 3200x 1800 pixels. As for comparison, Macbook Pro Retina packs a 2880 x 1800 pixels display. That means Precision M3800 has more pixels and of course pixel density.

The workstation is powered by Intel Core i7-4702MQ, a quad-core processor based on Haswell microarchitecture clocked at 2.2 GHz, with Turbo Boost technology up to 3.2 GHz. The powerful processor is combined with up to 16 GB of RAM for provding the best experience of using Windows 8. For storage, it will come with standard 1 TB HDD or 512 GB SSD. It will be equipped with an NVIDIA graphics card, not a GeForce, but an NVIDIA Quadro K1100M GPU with 2 GB VRAM. The GPU hasn’t been announced by NVIDIA.

The Precision M3800 has some ports including HDMI, four USB 3.0, and an Secure Digital card reader. Dell follows Apple’s example not to include an RJ45 port. A separate adapter dongle is needed for that. Dell claims this machine as the first mobile workstation less than 0.75-inch thick (18 mm exactly). It weighs only 4.5 lbs.

Buyers will get a 61 Wh or 91 Wh battery and the display is offered with or without touchscreen support. Comes with matte-black color in aluminum-trimmed chassis, M3800 is priced between $1,699 and $1,999.
