Intel is trying to enter mobile chip market. It can be seen through an Intel representative statement recently, saying that Intel is preparing a Haswell chip that will be released in the late of 2013.
Unlike the previous chips, the upcoming 4th generation Core iX processor will only consume 4.5 watt or lower than current Haswell chips that consume at least 6 watt. The new chip will be the first chip in Intel Core series that doesn't need cooling fan.
If Intel can realize it, the Intel chip will be able to compete with ARM based chips that dominate mobile devices at this time. The Haswell chip will save battery consumption with better performance. It's also able to run Windows 8 smoothly.
The upcoming Haswell chip is intended for tablet and hybrid (convertible) devices. It hints the possibility of second generation Microsoft Surface with more efficient power consumption. Intel revealed that the chip will be available in limited number in the late of 2013.
